Petition Change 9/11

Dear ladies and gentlemen,

normally I always sign the petitions, you send to me, but in this case I will not do. There are 2 reasons for it.

1) there are so many unclear informations about that event, that I still have my doubts, that it happened like officially said. And if really the Bush Administration has done that and not Arabian terrorists, then even the best trained security guard wouldn't have any chance.

2) Protecting your (or any other country) is official task. I am strictly against private security guards, because you never can control them really.

Kind regards,

The security of our critical infrustructure needs to be overseen by well-trained professionals.

Dear Herbert,

Before the firefighters and police arrived at the World Trade Center on 9/11, private security officers were on site. The 9/11 Commission found that without a well-trained team of security officers inside the World Trade Center, many more lives would have been lost.

But the training provided to security officers at the World Trade Center is rare in a private security industry worth billions.

85% of critical infrastructure is guarded by more than 1 million private security officers nationwide - more than twice the size of the country's police force. Yet despite the size and reach of this group of first responders, the private security industry is largely unregulated and controlled by a small handful of private corporations that consistently put profits before proper training.

We need to plug this dangerous hole in our national security. We can't leave the safety of critical infrastructure in the hands of a huge private security force that lacks basic quality standards.

Demand that private security corporations raise professional standards for security officers to keep America safe >

Just half of all states require even basic training for security officers. By comparison, all 50 states require an average of 1,500 hours of training to get a cosmetologist license.

What's more, low professional standards and poor working conditions for security officers have created a turnover rate higher than even in the fast food industry - historically as high as 300%.

The average pay for most security officers is less than $23,000 a year, and many work two or three jobs just to make ends meet. Many officers want to turn their jobs into good careers, but there's a constant "revolving door" of inexperienced security officers struggling to meet the demands of their job.

Please contact the CEOs of the ten largest private security companies and urge them to support higher professional standards and a fair wage for security officers - America's first responders to life-threatening emergency situations >

Thanks for taking action,
