Together Building the Movement to Avert Global Ecosystem Collapse
- Please gift EI and Earth by donating now at http://www.ecoearth.info/shared/donate/
October 18, 2010
Dear friends,
Ecological knowledge has come so far in just over a lifetime. The modern discipline of ecology has been born. We understand that Gaia – the Earth System – is alive and self-regulating. Yet at the same time, the depth and pace of ecosystem destruction has sky-rocketed. Earth’s forests, water, oceans and climate are passing from being; replaced by toxics, nitrogen and over-populated humanity. Governments, business and big greens have failed us – having no sufficient plan to stop global ecosystem collapse. Many of us have come to understand Earth is needlessly dying, and we accept it is up to people power to Save Earth. Ecological Internet (EI) strongly needs your support at to pursue this vision of a just, equitable and ecologically sustainable world at http://www.ecoearth.info/shared/donate/ .
For over two decades I – Dr. Glen Barry - have been at the forefront of providing the biocentric information systems, ecological thought and targeted action necessary to contribute mightily to “raising the roof on global ecological sustainability.” Together we have built Ecological Internet’s huge global network of nearly 100,000 global Earth activists and organizations into an unprecedented transnational Earth Action Network. Unlike virtually any other environmental group; EI demands sufficient biocentric, ecological science-based rainforest, climate, water, ocean and environmental sustainability policy; and frequently we are heard.
And what a year it has been, with a stunning seven major environmental conservation victories achieved by EI with allies! Sometimes EI starts campaigns that grow into movements, as we did popularizing internationally the plight of Ecuador’s oil threatened Yasuni National Park. Other times we support established campaigns, giving them a global boost, as we did successfully this year in Madagascar’s rainforests, Russia’s urban forests, Tasmania’s native forests, and India’s mine-resisting tribals. And sometimes we go it alone, as with the Papua New Guinea Ramu rainforest and Indian elephant campaigns. Even as EI notes the severity of global ecological change, we celebrate with you these ecological successes that are of the scale and ambition necessary to demonstrate averting global ecosystem collapse is possible.
The Earth System is dying and each of us needs to reach deep inside ourselves and either become - or fund – dedicated and educated biocentric ecological activists as the antidote. From very humble resources, EI has a global reach that is defining what environmental campaign success means. And I mean humble – my old laptop is held together by duct tape, I made $39,000 in 2008 while going $20,000 into credit card debt for EI (sigh), and I live and work from a 150 year old farm house (whose mortgage payment we seek to raise in next several days). Recall donations made now are particularly appreciated as the cash flow (and stress level) remain tight.
I continue to pay a major price to my health, wealth and well-being as I internalize Gaia’s true symptoms in order to find solutions. Every day EI and I lay our being on the line to highlight ecological science driven solutions to global ecocide. And we very much desire and expect to continue doing so. But we need you to please donate now to keep EI’s unique and highly successful grassroots global biocentric thought and action alive at http://www.ecoearth.info/shared/donate/. We look forward to discussing these matters further as together we raise the remaining $70,000 for EI to operate into 2011. No one is getting rich here, but we would like to cover our expenses and make a simple living, as EI continues to demonstrate unmatched commitment and true ecological leadership.
For Earth,
Dr. Glen Barry
President, Ecological Internet
